Did you know that the Pilgrims, 102 people, left Plymouth, England, on September 6, 1620, in search of civil and religious liberty?
Did you know that 42 of the 102 died in that winter because of starvation and sickness?
Did you know that after an utter failure to grow anything with their own means, the Pilgrims were helped by Indians, to reap corns, potatoes, etc?
Did you know that the grateful Pilgims then declared a three-day feast, starting Dec. 13, 1621 to thank God and to celebrate with their Indian friends?
Well… while this was not the first Thanksgiving in America, it wsa America’s first Thanksgiving Festival…
So the Spirit of Thanksgiving is all about sharing and giving thanks to God regardless of how much we have.
1 Thessalonians 5:18, “give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, let us retain the original gratefulness to God displayed by the Pilgrims!
